Use the 2–3–1 rule

02 NEEDS

Name two non-negotiables

For example: measured chest width and a clear back photo; or insole length and a side profile.

03 OPTIONS

Cap the real shortlist at three

Three similar candidates reveal differences. Ten unrelated maybes hide them.

01 REASON

Give every survivor one sentence

“Clearer measurements” is a reason. “I kept looking at it” is not.

00 EXCUSES

Do not repair the listing in your head

If the photos, sizing, or source details are missing, record the gap instead of imagining the answer.

Eliminate before you compare

  • Remove the wrong lane. A product that does not match the planned category or use should not consume comparison time.
  • Remove evidence gaps. Missing measurements, inconsistent images, or unclear options require a specific follow-up before the item can return.
  • Remove price-only saves. A low number is not a substitute for fit, construction, source clarity, or shipping context.
  • Remove sunk-time saves. Time already spent finding an item does not make it a stronger candidate.

Keep a decision note, not a tab memory

Next action: Do not search for more hoodies. Resolve the missing evidence or cut this option.

Stop when the next click cannot improve the decision

End the session when three credible candidates remain, when the important evidence is missing from every option, or when fatigue starts lowering the standard. Stopping with no purchase decision can still be a successful result if it prevents a weak item from reaching shipping.
